HAMBANTOTA AREA LIBRARY |
We provided funding to YES Foundation, a local Sri Lankan NGO, to construct a library in a remote village in the Hambantota area. Children and families in the area currently have to travel up to 20km to get to the nearest library. By having the library closer to their home, children and families in this area will read more often and this will help provide more opportunities for them in the future. Residents of the area are very excited about this new library which will be coming to their community.
This photo was taken outside the building which will be renovated to house the new library.
MATARA AREA SPONSORED FAMILY |
For several years, we have sponsored
children and families through the local Sri Lankan NGO, Karuna Trust.
During this visit, I was able to meet a family we are sponsoring who was affected by the tsunami. Our sponsorship has helped improved the livelihood of this family and hopefully will provide them with new opportunities for the future. |
MATARA AREA NURSERY SCHOOL |
We helped Sarvodaya, a local Sri Lankan NGO, furnish a nursery school that they recently opened in the Matara area of Sri Lanka. Many of the children attending this nursery school are from tsunami affected families.
